Convent Wetter

Konvent Wetter

After World War II many people of Christian faith came to the town of Wetter, a Diaspora town in which for centuries hardly any Catholics had lived. The community of Wetter received its own priest on 15 December 1945, namely Bernhard Gischarowski stemming from East Prussia. The Catholic community started to insecurely gain a foothold, establish an emergency church and start a church life.
After 1946 with Father Petrus Pollak OT the first priest of the German Order came to Wetter. The Order had committed itself towards the diocese Fulda regarding the parish Wetter, and thus guarantees a reliable care until today. Already in 1949 the slowly increasing community bought land for a chapel, and with concentrated forces the construction of their own Lord’s house was started in 1950. However, the church was quickly too small for the growing community. It took until 1979 that the long desired erection of the church with a community centre could be dealt with. The vivid church life is visible in the Holy Masses, in church feasts, carnival sessions and joint excursions and many more. The convent Wetter also manages the parishes in Burgwald, Gemünden and Vöhl.
