Priory of the German Brother Province

      Prior P. Norbert Thüx OT

Prior P. Norbert Thüx OT

The Provincial of the German province is currently Prior Br. Norbert Thüx OT, who holds this office since December 2000. He is supported by the province council – an advisory board, which must be heard before important decisions are made, and which partially has a right of veto.
The prior and thus also the priory have their seat at the respective seat of the province. For the German brother province this is Weyarn near Munich. In the framework of being assigned the legal status of a public body by the Free State of Bavaria the residence of the province was transferred to the former Monastery of Canons Regular under Augustinian Rule in Weyarn. At the same time the main administration of the congregation work of the German Order Deutschordenswerke was settled there as well.
The priory is the provincialate of the brother province. This peculiar designation goes back to the title that the provincials (heads of the province) have in the German Order. They are referred to as prior (first), since they are they rank first among the brothers of a province. Along with the title prior the heads of a province may also bear the title Landkomtur dating back to the times of the clerical Order of Knights, which expresses the continuity of the Order in spite of its changed administration structure.
